A man is being treated in hospital after he was found unresponsive in the waters near a Paget beach.

A police spokesman said that officers got multiple calls of a swimmer in distress at Elbow Beach at about 3.45pm yesterday.

It appeared that the man, a 44-year-old guest worker from the Philippines, had gone underwater and had not been seen for some time. He later resurfaced and was seen unresponsive.

Officers upon arrival found that members of the public had pulled him from the water and brought him onto the beach where life-saving measures commenced.

EMTs arrived shortly after and continued life-saving efforts as he was taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

At last check, the man was still receiving treatment.

The police spokesman said: “The Bermuda Police Service commend those members of the public who assisted in removing the male from the water and performing CPR until the arrival of Emergency Services personnel.”
